Effects of Technical Barrier on the Quality of Export Products: An Empirical Study Based on the Export Sophistication of Wooden Furniture

  • In recent years, international trade research has been changed from "quantity of export" to "quality of export". Among all the relevant factors, the technical barriers cause significant impacts on the quality of export. Differing from its positive influence over the transaction of high-tech products, technical barriers, in this study by measuring export sophistication and empirical verification, are believed to refrain the quality improvement of primary product (as exemplified by wooden furniture) for exportation, impeding the international trade growth of them. To cope with the unfair trade barriers, industry is supposed to enhance the export quality through various perspectives and consequently their overall competitiveness in international market; government should maintain the benefits of enterprises and provide more convenient trade environment by policy privilege and financial compensation; and relevant associations should train enterprises to deal with the potential barriers in the future.
