General Characteristics and Planning Strategies for French National Park Adhesion Areas

  • To ensure the high-quality development of national parks in China, it is crucial to balance the overall protection of national parks with the coordinated development of surrounding communities. The French national park spatial governance model, organized around a charter and featuring a "core area-adhesion area" structure, offers significant insights for China. However, research on planning strategies for adhesion areas is relatively limited. This study, drawing on literature and official planning documents, initially outlines the overall characteristics of the adhesion areas in 11 French national parks, focusing on spatial definition, governance system, and planning strategy. It then takes the Cévennes National Park as a specific case study, analyzing the planning strategy's content and features for the adhesion area from both spatial and systemic perspectives. Finally, the study extracts lessons for China from the French approach to national park adhesion area planning, particularly in terms of buffer zone demarcation, governance systems, and community development, with the aim of providing theoretical and practical references for the development and planning of communities adjacent to China's national parks.
