LIU Zong-yuan’s Thoughts of Building Public Gardens

  • LIU Zong-yuan, a famous litterateur of Tang Dynasty, visited and enjoyed beautiful sceneries, explored nature resources within his jurisdiction, and designed and built many scenic spots when he was banished to Yongzhou (in todays Hunan province) and Liuzhou (in Guangxi zhuang Autonomous Region) for offending the emperor. His activities and thoughts are analyzed in this paper. It would guide us to find a coordinated development approach between building the modern city public gardens and developing environmental construction. The research has significant and historical meanings for evaluating officials’ political achievements and ecological civilization construction.
