Traits and Meanings of HAN Yu's Aesthetics of Flowers and Trees

  • Han Yu was not keenly interested in tree peony and Chinese herbaceous peony which were appreciated by many people. He held himself aloof from comparing one's virtues to flowers and trees like Yuan Zhen and Bai Juyi. Instead, he was rational and restrained about flowers and trees empathy. Han Yu's perception about flowers and trees was rooted in his orthodox awareness and confucianist practice. Han Yu was deeply in love with some flowers and trees which were tall and abandoned by most people. His appreciation of plants in pots, and description about plum and apricot had a profound impact on later generations. Even though Han Yu had never focused on the flowers aesthetic, he got unexpected achievements in this field.
