A Textual Research on the Position of Wuyuan in Yizheng Municipality of Jiangsu Province in the End of Ming Dynasty

  • In the end of the Ming Dynasty, Wuyuan was designed and constructed by Jicheng near the Xinji bridge on the Yaoshi River in southwest Yizhen County, which had been destroyed by Qing Dynasty. For a long time, the position of the Yaoshi River, the Xinji Bridge and Wuyuan could not be determined because of the change of the river and other reasons. This research shows that the east part of today's Jindou River was the south part of the Yaoshi River in Ming Dynasty, and the position of the Xin Bridge used to be the position of the Xinji Bridge in Ming Dynasty. So Wuyuan should have been located in the area extending from the Huayuan Village to the Meiren Stone and Huayuantiao, in the west of the Xin Bridge and in the north of the Yangtze River.
