Improvement of Planting Technique of Tung Oil Tree in China During the Period of the Republic of China ——Research from the Perspective of Global History

The tung oil tree (Aleurites fordii) is a native tree species in China. Since modern times, because of the important role of tung oil in paint industry, this kind of tree has been widely introduced by countries all over the world. After foreign countries introduced Chinese tung oil tree, modern forest cultivation methods were combined with its planting, and a scientific tung oil tree cultivation method was developed. At the same time, the variety of Chinese tung oil tree was improved, and new varieties adapted to the environment of various countries were cultivated. Excellent varieties and scientific planting methods have improved the yield and quality of tung oil, thus posing a threat to the tung oil industry of China. In order to eliminate this threat, the National Government launched a nationwide campaign to improve the planting techniques of tung oil trees. In this process, a large number of agricultural and forestry institutions have been established. Their scientific research and planting technique promotion have improved the level of planting technique of tung oil tree in China, and enhanced the international competitiveness of Chinese tung oil.
