Integration and Conservation of Heritage Resources in Upstream of Luanhe River Nature Reserve in Hebei Province

  • The Upstream of Luanhe River National Nature Reserve is situated in the Manchu and Mongolia Nationalities Autonomous County of Hebei Province. The total area of the nature reserve is 50637.40 hm2, and it is the largest nature reserve of forest and wild animal conservation in Hebei Province. It is a complex ecosystem, including forest, mountains, gorges, lakes, streams, grasslands, swamps and wetlands, and provides a wide habitat for rare and endemic species of animals and plants. The reserve contains abundant wildlife resources, including a number of rare and endangered species. Besides natural resources and natural beauty, there are many scenic spots and historical sites in it. Based on investigation of heritage resources, this paper summarizes natural, cultural and intangible cultural heritage resources in the area. Some existing problems, such as human activities, reduction of forest area, land desertification, water and soil erosion, grassland deterioration, species decrease, ecological imbalance, environmental pollution, tourism development pressure are pointed out. Other potential problems including climate change, acid rain, greenhouse effect, mudflow and water resource crisis is analyzed too. This paper puts forward relevant protective strategies of heritage resources, such as establishment and implementation of comprehensive management, biodiversity conservation, ecological balance system, natural disaster monitoring system, cultural landscape protection, ecotourism planning, so as to promote sustainable development of the Upstream of Luanhe River National Nature Reserve.
