Abstract
Reed and amur silvergrass are two herbs that frequently appear in Chinese classical literature. There were endless debates in ancient China on the similarities and differences of the two herbs because they both have many alternative names. Based on literary characteristic and botanical data, the authors discuss their name origins, applications, and cultural implications.
