Textual Research on the South Yuyuan, the North Yuyuan and Their Masters in Late Ming and Early Qing Dynasties in Yangzhou Municipality,Jiangsu Province

  • his is a textual research, which gets the followings results: in late Ming and early Qing dynasties, there were two Yuyuan gardens in Guazhou, namely the South Yuyuan and the North Yuyuan; the South Yuyuan was in Guazhou city, and the North Yuyuan was in Wulipu on the northern suburb of Guazhou city; and their owners were all from the Yu Tonghai family. The wrong Chinese names of Yuyuan(余园)、Yushiyuan(余氏园) and the South Yuyuan(余氏南园) should be corrected and be replaced by Yuyuan(于园)、Yushiyuan(于氏园)and the South Yuyuan(于氏南园). The builder or the master of the North Yuyuan may be Yu Daonan. In Tianqi and Chongzhen years of Ming Dynasty, the masters of the South Yuyuan should be Yu Chengzu and Yu Daozhang.
