Abstract:
This paper identifies the differences between syntactic structure and diction of scientific titles in Chinese and international forestry journals, aiming at improving the quality of English titles in Chinese forestry journals. A total of 800 titles were selected randomly from Chinese and international forestry journals published in recent years. The use of syntactic structure, articles, prepositions, phrases, and sentence-initial gerunds were compared. The results indicate that the differences between the two types of journal titles mainly include diversity, expressiveness and conciseness. Compared with international journals, the English titles of Chinese journals should pay more attention to succinctness, highlight information and enhance the diversity of syntactic structure and language expression.
