On the Proof of "Respect for Nature":A Comparative Analysis of Western Ecological Ethics and Chinese Traditional Ecological Ethics

  • The proof of "respect for nature" in western ecological ethics takes the description of "nature" in natural science as the logical starting point, and its basic logic can be simplified as the proof from "is" to "should". However, Chinese traditional ecological ethics starts from "I" and comes to the conclusion of "filial piety for heaven" through the way of "enlightenment" and "collection of righteousness". Through comparative analysis, it can be found that there are obvious differences between western ecological ethics and Chinese traditional ecological ethics in "respect for nature" of the cultural tradition, argumentation logic and argumentation methods. Chinese traditional ecological ethics has put forward an argumentation path of "respect for nature" that is superior to western ecological ethics, and has provided important enlightenment for China to practice the ecological civilization concept of harmonious coexistence between man and nature.
