Content and Spatial Layout of Cultural Forest: A Case Study of Shenzhen

This paper focuses on the core meaning of cultural forest which can be described as "harmonious co-existence of forest and human beings ", analyzes the spatial dynamics and the humanistic characteristics of cultural forest, and teases out three key points to define the cultural forest. Then the paper summarizes the content of cultural forest construction including absolutely protective subjects (red line), basic human demand subjects (orange line), and the promoting demand subjects (yellow line). The main processes to form the layout of cultural forest construction might be as follows: to figure out the space source, to compose the potential space, to do the mapping of the cultural forest by public preference, and to synthesize the cultural forest construction pattern. Based on this, taking Shenzhen as an example, this paper firstly analyzes the residential area through the GIS and other technical platforms to determine the space source of the construction layout, secondly superposes the land use, the forest distribution, the greenspace resources distribution to make out the potential space, thirdly analyzes the indicative subjects of cultural forest construction that belong to red, yellow, and orange lines by investigation, satellite map analysis, citizen interview and questionnaires, and lastly, according to the actual situation of Shenzhen, forms the contents and their layout of the cultural forest construction.
